Kejriwal vs BJP: War of Words Over Ramayan Sparks Political Row

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the BJP engaged in a fierce verbal duel after the latter accused Kejriwal of insulting Hindu sentiments by misquoting the Ramayan during an election rally. BJP Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva launched a protest and observed a fast, calling Kejriwal a “Chunavi Hindu” who manipulates religious narratives for political gain. Kejriwal responded by accusing the BJP of defending demon king Ravan and harboring “demonic tendencies.” With Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, the issue has intensified the rivalry between the two parties, turning into a blame game over religion and politics.

The controversy erupted when Kejriwal, while addressing voters, claimed Ravan abducted Sita by disguising himself as a golden deer. BJP leaders quickly dismissed this as a misrepresentation, pointing out that it was the demon Marich who took the form of the deer. Kejriwal countered by accusing the BJP of protesting in Ravan’s honor and warned Delhi’s poor and slum dwellers of the BJP’s “dangerous intentions” if it came to power. Adding fuel to the fire, AAP leader Manish Sisodia mocked the BJP on social media, suggesting the party’s defense of Ravan reflected its low political standards.

Sachdeva also criticized Kejriwal for his past remarks opposing the Ram Mandir and advocating for schools and hospitals instead of temples. He asserted that the Hindu community would not forgive Kejriwal for disrespecting their faith. As the war of words escalates, the BJP is leveraging the issue to portray Kejriwal as anti-Hindu, while AAP accuses the BJP of twisting religious sentiments for electoral gain. With voting just weeks away, the feud has further polarized voters in a politically charged Delhi.
