Kavitha Resigns from MLC Post After Suspension, Questions BRS Allegations

A day after her suspension from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K Kavitha tendered her resignation from both the primary membership of the party and her MLC post, marking a dramatic turn in Telangana politics. Addressing the media at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Hyderabad, Kavitha alleged that a section of BRS leaders deliberately carried out a smear campaign against her to tarnish her image. She questioned whether her activities—ranging from welfare campaigns to grassroots-level meetings—could genuinely be branded as “anti-party.” Recalling her arrest in the Delhi excise policy case and subsequent return after spending more than five months in Tihar Jail, Kavitha highlighted how she actively took up public issues including women’s financial aid, BC reservations, gurukula concerns, and the plight of submerged villages. “Are all these called anti-party activities?” she asked, urging party seniors to introspect before labeling her initiatives as rebellious.

In a sharp attack on senior BRS leaders, Kavitha singled out former minister Harish Rao and ex-MP Santosh, accusing them of spreading propaganda against her and indulging in corruption. She linked them to irregularities in the high-profile Kaleshwaram project, while questioning whether Telangana’s golden future could only mean personal wealth for a few leaders. Kavitha asserted that her vision was rooted in “Samajika Telangana” (social Telangana), an idea she said was inspired by her father KCR’s promise to uplift marginalized communities. Stressing that her agenda was never against the party but for the people, she recalled KCR’s initiatives such as land allotments for Dalits and argued that she had merely extended this vision. Her remarks underscored widening fissures within the party, with her resignation intensifying speculation about the BRS’s future leadership and unity.

In an emotional appeal, Kavitha turned to BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR), addressing him as “Ramanna” and expressing disappointment over his silence. She said that despite raising concerns about conspiracies against her, KTR never called her to discuss the matter. “If I get justice only when I hold a press conference, what will happen to ordinary women workers in the party?” she asked, questioning whether leadership would listen to them in times of injustice. Her resignation and statements have sent shockwaves through the political circles of Telangana, signaling not just a personal setback for Kavitha but also a deepening internal crisis for the BRS. With opposition parties closely watching the developments, the episode is likely to reshape political equations in the state ahead of the coming electoral battles.
