The Karnataka government has announced financial and employment support for the family of Venkatesh, a security guard fatally shot during a robbery in Bidar. The attackers stole ₹93 lakh in cash, leaving police teams scrambling to apprehend the suspects. The family will receive ₹8 lakh from the Social Welfare Department and an additional ₹10 lakh following consultations with the Chief Minister. Furthermore, Venkatesh’s mother will be provided a monthly stipend of ₹5,000, and one family member will secure a position in the Social Welfare Department.
The tragic incident unfolded when a team from the Cash Management Services agency was depositing cash at an ATM near the State Bank of India’s head office. Four armed men in a vehicle without license plates ambushed the team, using chili powder to disable them. They shot Venkatesh, an ex-army security guard, at close range before escaping with the money. The gang, masked to conceal their identities, had reportedly been tailing the cash van prior to the attack.
Authorities suspect the group is fleeing to northern India with the stolen cash. A related shooting incident in Hyderabad’s Afzalgunj area the next day has deepened concerns about the gang’s movements. Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, who visited the bereaved family, assured them of government support, emphasizing efforts to deliver justice and apprehend the culprits.
