J&K Student Assaulted in Nagpur, Student Body Seeks Action from CM Fadnavis

A student from Jammu and Kashmir, currently pursuing his Bachelor of Pharmacy in Nagpur, was allegedly assaulted by a group of local residents in the Kamptee area on Sunday evening, April 27. According to police officials, the motive behind the incident remains unclear, and no formal complaint has yet been lodged by the victim. The student was reportedly standing by the roadside waiting for a friend when he was confronted and questioned by locals. When he failed to answer properly, he was allegedly beaten. Once his companion explained they were students, the group let them go.

Following the incident, one of the students informed the J&K Students Association, whose national convenor Nasir Khuehami took to social media platform X to condemn the attack and urge Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene. The student clarified there appeared to be no hate motive and that unfamiliarity with the area contributed to the confrontation. Khuehami, however, described the attack as unprovoked and brutal, stating that the student was punched multiple times in the face, stomach, and knees, and slapped repeatedly on his face, neck, and arms.

The incident drew immediate attention from the Maharashtra government after Khuehami alerted the Chief Minister’s Office. He reported receiving a call from IGP (Law & Order) Manoj Kumar Sharma, who assured him that strict legal action would be taken against the culprits and sought details of the victim. The J&K Students Association emphasized the need for accountability and safety of Kashmiri students studying outside the Union Territory, calling on authorities to ensure such attacks are not repeated in future.
