Jharkhand School Principal Under Fire for Forcing Girls to Remove Shirts Over ‘Pen Day’ Celebration

In a shocking incident at a prestigious school in Digwadih, Jharkhand, the principal allegedly forced 80 Class 10 girls to remove their shirts as punishment for writing messages on them during a ‘Pen Day’ celebration. The students, after completing their final examination, had been exchanging heartfelt messages by signing each other’s shirts, a common celebratory tradition. However, the principal, objecting to the practice, instructed the students to remove their shirts and sent them home wearing only their blazers.

The parents, outraged by the incident, lodged complaints with Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra. According to their account, the students had apologized, but the principal still insisted on the punishment, which left the girls humiliated. The incident sparked a strong backlash, with parents and local leaders demanding strict action against the principal. Jharia MLA Ragini Singh, accompanying the parents to the DC’s office, condemned the act as “shameful and unfortunate.”

The district administration has launched a probe into the matter, forming a committee comprising the sub-divisional magistrate, district education officer, district social welfare officer, and sub-divisional police officer. DC Madhvi Mishra assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the inquiry report. Despite multiple attempts, the principal could not be reached for comment. The incident has ignited widespread criticism, raising concerns about the treatment of students in educational institutions.
