Instagram Stunt Backfires: Two Youths Booked for Disguising as Woman at Jagtial Bus Station

In a bizarre social media stunt in Jagtial, two young men were booked by police after one of them disguised himself in a burqa and scarf to pose as a woman at the Korutla bus station. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when 21-year-old Mohammed Numan, accompanied by his friend Mohammed Akeel, allegedly entered the women’s seating area of the bus station to record Instagram videos. Their unusual behaviour quickly drew the attention of commuters, who became suspicious of the youth sitting among female passengers.

According to local police officials, the duo had planned the act purely for social media content, hoping to attract views and attention online. However, an RTC constable noticed inconsistencies in the youth’s appearance and movements and alerted authorities immediately. Upon questioning, police confirmed that Numan had dressed up intentionally and that the pair had previously made several similar videos for Instagram. The location of the incident — the busy Korutla bus station — only heightened concerns over public disturbance and misuse of public spaces for online stunts.

Both youths have now been booked under public nuisance provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Indian Penal Code. Police stated that the offence is bailable but warned that such acts can create panic, safety risks, and unnecessary disruption, especially in public transport areas. The case highlights a growing trend of reckless content creation where chasing viral fame overrides basic civic sense — and this time, it landed the creators straight into legal trouble instead of online applause.
