IMD Warns of Prolonged Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall in Hyderabad Till June 17

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of alerts warning of sustained heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Telangana, including Hyderabad, until June 17. The persistent weather pattern is expected to bring lightning, gusty winds between 40–50 kmph, and a drop in daytime temperatures—unusual for this time of year. On Tuesday, Hyderabad recorded maximum temperatures below 30°C as thick rain-bearing systems hovered over the city and surrounding districts. Meteorologists attribute the weather shift to increased atmospheric moisture and instability.

A yellow alert remains in effect through June 13 for most parts of Telangana, covering both rural and urban areas. Districts like Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal, Adilabad, Rajanna Sirisilla, and Hyderabad are among those under active alert. The IMD has especially cautioned residents in low-lying and flood-prone regions. Authorities have advised people to avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, refrain from seeking shelter under trees, and stay away from water-logged areas. Commuters are encouraged to monitor weather updates before traveling.

The forecast suggests that Telangana will continue to experience rain, gusty winds, and intermittent thunderstorms till at least June 17. These weather conditions may lead to disruption of daily routines, particularly in urban hubs like Hyderabad where waterlogging and traffic snarls are common. The Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department is on standby and has urged the public to follow official advisories and avoid risky areas. Residents can track real-time warnings via the IMD website and the Telangana Disaster Response mobile app for timely updates.
