In a tragic incident at MedQuest Diagnostic Centre in KPHB, Hyderabad, a 66-year-old woman, Sistla Surya Lakshmi, lost her life allegedly due to medical negligence during a diagnostic procedure on May 6. She had been referred for a CT cystography after suffering from continuous nasal discharge. Her son, Sistla Venkata Abhishek, 34, lodged a complaint with the police stating that the staff administered a contrast dye without performing proper clinical evaluations or allergy checks, which allegedly triggered a cardiac arrest.
Abhishek further accused the diagnostic staff of failing to handle the emergency situation with appropriate care. According to his statement, no timely intubation or life-saving intervention was provided after Lakshmi collapsed. Instead, the staff reportedly tried to shift the blame onto the family, citing a lack of formal consent. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The family has strongly condemned the absence of emergency preparedness at the diagnostic centre.
Following the complaint, KPHB police registered a case and have begun investigating the matter. The case has once again raised concerns over safety protocols and emergency handling procedures at private diagnostic centres. Authorities are expected to examine whether the centre followed standard medical guidelines and if there were any lapses in staff training or equipment availability during the procedure.
