As part of a major infrastructure initiative, Telangana’s Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that a new greenfield expressway will soon reduce the travel time between Hyderabad and Vijayawada to just two hours. Addressing the media at Vanasthalipuram Junction, the minister emphasized that the expressway would not only ease the journey between the two cities but also significantly enhance regional connectivity, paving the way for faster economic development. The project is part of a broader regional connectivity plan that includes modern infrastructure upgrades across the state.
In addition to the greenfield highway, the minister reviewed progress on a ₹650 crore elevated corridor from LB Nagar to Pedda Amberpet — one of Hyderabad’s most congested corridors. The six-kilometre corridor, aligned with the Outer Ring Road (ORR), aims to decongest major bottlenecks, especially around Hayathnagar. Four vehicle underpasses have already been completed under this scheme. Meanwhile, work is underway on the ₹2,300 crore Gauravelli-Valigonda-Bhadrachalam expressway, with the Valigonda-Thorrur segment under construction and tenders for the Thorrur-Bhadrachalam stretch underway. Additionally, a ₹375 crore road linking Andole Maisamma to Vijayawada is progressing in parallel.
The minister also announced that 17 black spots in the state identified as accident-prone areas will be prioritized for road safety improvements. On urban infrastructure, the government is pushing for approval of Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 and the Regional Ring Railway project. Plans are in place for a high-level meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek necessary clearances. In the healthcare sector, Venkat Reddy said that the super-specialty TIMS Hospital in Sanathnagar will open in September. Taking a political jab, he questioned BRS MLC K. Kavitha’s silence on BC reservation while in power, asserting that the Congress was the one to formally move a resolution favoring BC quotas.
