Hyderabad Sets Month-Long Traffic Plan for Golconda Bonalu, Urges Commuters to Re-Route

The Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Golconda Bonalu festivities will draw thousands between June 26 and July 24, with nine major pooja days peppered across the month (June 26, 29; July 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24). Expecting heavy footfall at the historic fort, Hyderabad Traffic Police has mapped out early-morning-to-late-night diversions on three arteries—Ramdevguda–Makkai Darwaza, Langar Houz–Fateh Darwaza, and Shaikpet Nala/Seven Tombs–Banjara Darwaza—and warned daily commuters to avoid these stretches from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. whenever possible.

Dedicated parking pockets have been carved out to keep festival vehicles from choking the approach roads: two-wheelers coming via Makkai Darwaza must stop between Ashoor Khana and the Army Sentry Post, while four-wheelers can use the Artillery Centre or Ashoor Khana lot; devotees entering through Fateh Darwaza may leave bikes at the MCH Park, Golconda Bus Stop, or Alhira School and cars at Area Hospital; and those approaching through Banjara Darwaza should funnel two-wheelers onto the Golf Club by-lanes and direct four-wheelers to the Hockey Ground, Owaisi Ground, or Deccan Park near Seven Tombs. Setwin buses will terminate at Ashoor Khana, with pilgrims asked to cover the final stretch on foot for smoother crowd flow.

To keep congestion in check, the Traffic Helpline (+91 90102 03626) will stay active throughout the festival, and live advisories will roll out on the police’s X (Twitter) handle. Authorities have appealed for patience, orderly parking, and pedestrian discipline so that both residents and devotees can navigate Hyderabad’s busiest heritage precinct with minimal disruption during this month-long celebration.
