A petrol pump in Hyderabad’s Uppal area has come under serious scrutiny after a video emerged allegedly showing manipulation of fuel meter readings. The incident took place at the Bharat Petrol Pump, located opposite Mehfil Restaurant, where a customer filmed the refueling process and demonstrated that the petrol dispensed was significantly less than what was paid for. The video has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread public anger and calls for a formal investigation.
In the now-viral footage, the customer is seen purchasing ₹100 worth of petrol and collecting it in a transparent bottle to verify the quantity. Upon checking, the fuel level was noticeably short, raising immediate suspicion of tampering. When confronted by the customer, the petrol pump staff appeared evasive and gave unclear answers, further fueling allegations of systematic cheating and fraud. Locals claim this is not the first time such complaints have been raised against this particular pump.
Following the viral video, consumer rights activists and local residents are demanding swift action from authorities including the Weights and Measures Department and local police. Many believe such fraudulent practices not only exploit consumers financially but also damage public trust in essential services. The video has sparked debate online about the need for stronger regulatory oversight of fuel stations. An official response from Bharat Petroleum or local enforcement agencies is still awaited.
