In a surprise operation conducted on Wednesday, the South Zone Task Force raided a hookah parlour operating illegally on Zafa Road in Rein Bazaar, Hyderabad. The authorities apprehended nine individuals, including the parlour’s owner, manager, and several customers, for organizing and consuming hookah on the premises. The raid was launched following specific inputs regarding unauthorized activities taking place inside the establishment, which was reportedly drawing young crowds.
During the operation, officials confiscated multiple hookah pots, various flavored tobacco products, and related paraphernalia, all estimated to be worth around ₹30,000. This action comes amid increased scrutiny and strict enforcement measures by Hyderabad Police to curb the rising trend of hookah consumption, especially among youth, in areas where such activities are not legally permitted. Authorities confirmed that the seized material had been sent for further verification and legal procedures.
The arrested individuals, along with the confiscated items, have been handed over to the Rein Bazaar police for further investigation and necessary legal action. Police officials emphasized that similar raids will continue as part of a broader campaign to clamp down on unlawful social spaces operating under the radar. Residents of the area have expressed mixed reactions—some appreciating the crackdown for maintaining law and order, while others pointed to the need for greater awareness and rehabilitation measures alongside enforcement.
