The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) on Monday issued a flood alert as water levels in the Godavari river continued to rise due to persistent heavy rainfall in upstream regions. The authority urged residents living near the riverbanks to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. As rains lashed the catchment areas over several days, the Godavari began to swell rapidly, raising concerns about possible flooding in low-lying regions of Andhra Pradesh and neighboring Telangana.
By Monday morning, the river’s water level reached 35.6 feet at Bhadrachalam in Telangana and 14.9 metres at Kunavaram in Andhra Pradesh. These measurements marked a significant rise compared to previous days and pushed officials to monitor the situation closely. Local authorities and disaster response teams have been placed on high alert, with emergency services ready to assist in evacuations or rescue operations if needed. The surge in water levels has already disrupted routine life in several riverside villages, with residents reporting water seepage and restricted mobility.
Officials emphasized the importance of community cooperation in following safety guidelines and evacuation protocols if the situation escalates. The APSDMA has activated its flood monitoring system and is coordinating with local administration units to provide timely updates. Residents have been advised to avoid venturing into flooded areas and to stay tuned to weather alerts. The state government has also instructed district collectors to remain stationed in vulnerable zones and ensure readiness of relief camps, boats, and medical teams to mitigate any emergency.
