Four Israeli women soldiers abducted by Hamas in October 2023 during their deployment near the Gaza border have been released as part of a ceasefire agreement. The soldiers—Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, and Naama Levy—were taken from the Nahal Oz military base during the initial attack. Their abduction was widely publicized through videos shared by Hamas.
Liri Albag, just 19 at the time, was forced by her captors to carry out domestic tasks while in captivity. She managed to send messages through other released hostages to her family, showing resilience despite her ordeal. Similarly, Karina Ariev, who turned 20 in captivity, and Daniella Gilboa, also 20, endured physical and psychological challenges during their detention. Both appeared in videos released by Hamas, with Gilboa identified by the clothes she was wearing during the attack.
Naama Levy, also 20, was shown in footage with apparent injuries. A triathlete and the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, she grew up in India and had a history of participating in peace-building programs. Her release, along with the other hostages, marks a significant moment in the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas to secure freedom for those held captive.
