Flights Diverted, One Cancelled as Rains Disrupt Hyderabad Airport Operations

Heavy rains and poor visibility in Hyderabad on Tuesday night led to significant disruptions at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, forcing the diversion of several domestic flights and the cancellation of one international flight. Airport authorities reported that five IndiGo flights were unable to land due to the adverse weather and were diverted to alternative airports for passenger safety. These included flight 6E 638 from Bengaluru to Hyderabad, which was diverted to Vijayawada, and flights 6E 6528 from Kolkata, 6E 6166 from Lucknow, 6E 471 from Jaipur, and flight 5326 from Mumbai, all of which were redirected to Bengaluru.

Officials from the airport confirmed that the diversions were carried out purely in the interest of ensuring safety, as persistent rain and low visibility made landing operations unfeasible during the night hours. “Passenger safety remains our top priority. The affected flights were rerouted to the nearest operational airports. Once weather conditions improved in Hyderabad, five of the diverted flights were successfully brought back and landed safely,” the officials stated. The temporary suspension of operations lasted a few hours, during which ground handling teams and air traffic control remained on high alert.

In addition to domestic disruptions, one international flight—Salam Air’s OV 735 from Muscat to Hyderabad—was cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions at its origin. While the Muscat-bound flight did not make it to Indian airspace, officials noted that it was a precautionary cancellation. By Wednesday morning, airport operations in Hyderabad had returned to normal, with no further delays or diversions reported. As the monsoon season continues, passengers are advised to check flight schedules regularly and stay updated on weather advisories before traveling.
