A horrifying case of domestic violence unfolded in Faridabad, where the decomposed body of 25-year-old Tannu Rajput was found buried in a pit outside her marital home in Roshan Nagar. The Faridabad police arrested her 54-year-old father-in-law, Bhoop Singh, who allegedly murdered her and attempted to conceal the crime. Tannu had been reported missing on April 25 by her husband, Arun Singh, but growing suspicions led authorities to investigate further. After weeks of probing, police excavated the front yard of the residence on Friday in the presence of a magistrate and recovered her remains. Officials stated that Singh strangled Tannu with a dupatta and buried her in a pre-dug soak pit, sealing it with concrete the next day.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajesh Kumar Lohan, the motive behind the murder appears to be linked to a dowry dispute, a deeply entrenched social evil still plaguing many households across India. Tannu and Arun were married in June 2023, and sources indicate that frequent domestic disagreements had occurred since then. On the night of April 21–22, when Arun was away on duty and Bhoop Singh’s wife was attending a wedding in Uttar Pradesh, Singh is believed to have taken advantage of the situation. While his daughter slept on the ground floor, Singh reportedly entered Tannu’s room on the first floor and committed the crime.
Following the recovery of the body, additional charges of murder and destruction of evidence have been added to the FIR. The police are now exploring the possible involvement of other family members, especially given the family’s initial silence and the suspicious nature of the cover-up. The case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stronger enforcement of laws against dowry harassment and violence. Authorities assured that every angle will be thoroughly examined and that justice will be served.
