Hyderabad: A major pipeline leakage at Engine Bowli–Jahanuma road in Falaknuma has resulted in the wastage of thousands of gallons of drinking water over the past few days. The leak in the main supply line beneath the road has been gushing water continuously, flooding nearly 200 meters of the main road. Despite repeated complaints from residents, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has not taken any visible action to fix the issue. Locals say they have alerted both public representatives and officials, but their appeals have fallen on deaf ears.
The situation has sparked frustration among residents who are facing water scarcity in other parts of the city. “People are struggling to get clean drinking water, and here gallons are being wasted every hour,” said Muneer Khan, a local resident. Another trader, Zeeshan Qureshi, pointed out that the water board’s negligence has worsened the problem, with no response even after days of public complaints. The leak not only poses a threat to water conservation efforts but also highlights the inefficiency in responding to civic emergencies.
Apart from water wastage, the constant flow has badly damaged the road. What were once small potholes have now turned into deep craters, making it extremely difficult for commuters—especially senior citizens—to use this route safely. “It’s a painful ride, and I now take a longer alternate road to avoid it,” said Niyazuddin, a senior citizen from Jahanuma. With civic apathy continuing, residents are demanding immediate intervention from authorities to prevent further damage and conserve precious water resources.
