Srinagar, May 30 – In a tragic turn of events in Jammu and Kashmir, eight police personnel were injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a ditch in the mountainous Uri area of Baramulla district. According to officials, the mishap occurred around late Friday morning while the team was reportedly en route to a security assignment in the region. Due to the rugged terrain and recent rainfall, roads in this part of the Valley have become increasingly slippery, raising the risk of such accidents. Authorities have not ruled out the impact of weather and road conditions as contributing factors to the accident.
Following the incident, local residents and emergency teams rushed to the spot to assist in rescue efforts. The injured were quickly evacuated to the nearby Sub-District Hospital in Uri, where medical personnel provided immediate treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that while some of the personnel sustained bruises and fractures, all eight were in stable condition. Senior police officials later visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured and appreciated the swift response from both civilians and emergency workers. The administration has initiated a probe into the circumstances of the accident to determine whether any mechanical failure or negligence was involved.
Road accidents involving security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are not uncommon due to the region’s challenging topography. The hilly terrain, narrow roads, and unpredictable weather often make transportation a dangerous endeavor, especially for law enforcement personnel who frequently travel through sensitive and remote locations. Friday’s accident has once again highlighted the need for better safety measures, including road maintenance and driver training for navigating treacherous routes. The police department has assured that necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future, and extended support to the families of the injured personnel.
