Delhi Building Collapse in Paharganj Kills 3, Rescue Operations Continue

A tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Paharganj area claimed the lives of three individuals and left one person critically injured on Saturday evening. The incident occurred near Hotel Krishna on Ara Kansa Road when the side wall of an under-construction basement gave way, bringing down a part of the structure. According to officials, the deceased have been identified as Prabhu (65), the contractor, and two laborers—Niranjan (40) and Roshan (35). All were trapped under the debris and succumbed to their injuries, while a fourth man, Chuttan (35), was rescued and hospitalized.

Emergency response teams including the Delhi Fire Service and NDRF quickly reached the site, deploying four fire tenders and a dog squad to assist with the rescue operations. The first unit to respond was from Connaught Place. The rescue operation continued through the night, with Central Delhi DM, Karol Bagh SDM, MCD, and police officials coordinating relief efforts. Authorities confirmed that two of the deceased were from Bihar and one from Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the precarious conditions faced by migrant construction workers.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and ordered an immediate probe into the incident. She assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and directed officials to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the deceased and the injured. In an official post from the CMO, the administration emphasized its commitment to justice and support for the victims. This incident comes just weeks after a similar building collapse in Mustafabad, which killed 11 people, raising concerns over construction safety standards in the national capital.
