Delhi Building Collapse: 4 Dead, Several Feared Trapped in Mustafabad Tragedy

A tragic incident struck the Mustafabad area of Delhi early Saturday morning, as a four-storey building collapsed around 3 a.m., leading to the death of four individuals. The building housed nearly 20 to 25 residents, and the sudden collapse caught them in their sleep. According to officials, 14 people have been rescued so far, though four among them were declared dead. Authorities believe 8 to 10 people may still be trapped under the debris as rescue operations continue with full force.

Rescue teams including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police, fire department, and dog squads are actively working at the site. Rajendra Atwal, Divisional Fire Officer, mentioned that a distress call was received at 2:50 a.m., and emergency teams rushed to the scene immediately. The cause of the collapse remains unclear, but it followed a night of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that hit various parts of Delhi. Weather conditions are expected to remain unstable, with more rain and strong winds forecasted for the evening.

This unfortunate event follows a similar mishap last week, when a wall of an under-construction building collapsed near Madhu Vihar police station due to a severe dust storm, killing one and injuring two others. These incidents raise serious concerns about the structural safety of buildings in the region, especially during extreme weather conditions. As rescue efforts continue in Mustafabad, the city remains on high alert for any further weather-related emergencies.
