Tensions rose in Hyderabad on Friday, July 4, as scores of job aspirants were detained during the ‘Chalo Secretariat’ protest organized by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi Vidhyarthi (BRSV) and the Unemployed Joint Action Committee (JAC). The protestors, mostly youth and student leaders, demanded the Congress-led state government immediately release a detailed job recruitment calendar, a key poll promise made by the party ahead of the Assembly elections. BRSV Telangana vice president Tunga Balu and several other leaders were either detained or placed under house arrest in the early hours, while others were taken into preventive custody to foil the march.
Videos circulating on social media show police using force to disperse the protestors, with some being pinned to the ground and others pushed into police vehicles. The demonstrators criticized the Congress administration for its delay in providing the promised two lakh government jobs. Accusing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of misleading the youth, BRSV leaders labeled the arrests as illegal and undemocratic, adding that the state’s unemployed population continues to face neglect despite lofty pre-election commitments.
While the BRS student wing strongly condemned the police action, political observers noted the irony, as the BRS government had also cracked down on similar protests during its own tenure. The demand for a transparent, time-bound job calendar has become a growing pressure point for the current regime. With social media amplifying student unrest and videos of police action drawing public attention, the issue is expected to remain a significant political flashpoint in the coming days.
