In a shocking incident highlighting ongoing safety concerns in Hyderabad, bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a young woman near the Telangana Chief Minister’s residence in Jubilee Hills on Wednesday morning. The victim, Manasa, originally from Kadapa and currently staying in a hostel in Madhapur, was on her way to work when the attackers approached her on a scooter. What makes the case more disturbing is that one of the two accused was reportedly a woman riding pillion, suggesting a calculated attempt to avoid suspicion.
According to police officials, the scooter slowed down beside Manasa before the pillion rider suddenly grabbed the gold chain from her neck and fled within seconds. The entire act happened so quickly that the victim barely had time to react or raise an alarm. The incident occurred in what is considered a high-security and upscale area of the city, raising serious questions about street surveillance and routine patrolling even near VIP zones.
After receiving the complaint, Jubilee Hills police rushed to the spot and formed special teams to track down the culprits. Officers have begun scanning CCTV footage from nearby buildings and road cameras to identify the scooter and the suspects involved. While investigations are underway, the case once again exposes how boldly criminals are operating in public spaces — even in areas close to the state’s power centre — making everyday commuters, especially women, increasingly vulnerable.
