The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced a massive rally for Backward Classes (BCs) in Karimnagar on August 8, demanding 42% reservation for BCs in Telangana’s local body elections. Party leaders stated they would also meet President Droupadi Murmu to urge her approval of two pending BC reservation Bills passed by the Telangana Legislature. These leaders aim to push for their inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to ensure legal protection from judicial challenges.
At a strategy meeting held at Telangana Bhavan, prominent BRS leaders including opposition leader S. Madhusudhana Chari and former ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Gangula Kamalakar, and V. Srinivas Goud discussed the political roadmap. Srinivas Yadav accused the ruling Congress of using diversionary tactics, pointing out that the party planned a Delhi trip from August 5 to 7 to press for the Bills’ approval despite its previous inaction. He challenged the Congress’s sincerity by demanding that BCs be allotted three Cabinet positions and 50% of nominated posts, which he claimed were denied despite campaign promises.
BRS leaders harshly criticized the Congress and BJP for allegedly stalling the BC reservation initiative, accusing them of playing politics with social justice. Former Speaker Chari stated the BRS would expose the Congress’s “dishonest narrative,” while Kamalakar and Goud insisted that any election conducted without implementing the 42% quota would be strongly resisted. They also condemned the Congress government for rushing a caste census without public transparency and delaying the actual implementation of reservation policy. The BRS vowed to escalate their agitation to Delhi if the Bills are not cleared soon.
