BRS Stages Major Protest Against RTC Fare Hike in Hyderabad

In Hyderabad, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders led by working president K.T. Rama Rao and senior leader T. Harish Rao staged a strong protest at the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) headquarters — Bus Bhavan — on Thursday. The demonstration was organized in opposition to the recent increase in RTC bus ticket fares across the state. Former ministers including Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Sabitha Indira Reddy, and T. Padma Rao joined the protest, travelling to Bus Bhavan in RTC buses from Rethifile and Mehdipatnam to symbolize solidarity with commuters affected by the hike.

The protest turned tense as police restricted several leaders from entering the Bus Bhavan premises, allowing only a few former ministers to meet the TGSRTC Managing Director to submit a representation demanding the rollback of fares. Visuals circulating on social media showed police personnel trying to disperse BRS supporters who gathered in large numbers at RTC X Roads, chanting slogans against the Congress government. BRS social media convener Manne Krishank was also detained amid the chaos.

Earlier in the day, both K.T. Rama Rao and Harish Rao were placed under house arrest by Hyderabad police to prevent them from joining the protest march. Despite heavy deployment of forces near their residences, party members managed to reach the protest site, accusing the state government of burdening the public with higher fares while offering free travel to women. The BRS leadership has demanded an immediate rollback of the increased rates, warning of intensified agitation if their demands are ignored.
