Hyderabad: BRS leader and former Chairman of the Telangana Minority Finance Corporation, Muhammad Imtiaz Ishaq, has voiced strong criticism against the Congress-led Telangana government for excluding Muslims from the state cabinet. Speaking to the media, he highlighted that for the first time in the combined history of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, there has been no Muslim minister for over 17 months. He demanded the immediate appointment of a Muslim representative in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s cabinet, calling the absence a serious lapse in inclusive governance.
Ishaq compared the Congress regime with the previous BRS government, praising former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao for maintaining a “golden era” for minorities, where representation and welfare were prioritized. He accused the Congress of failing to honor its election promises to the Muslim community, particularly pointing out that the promised Rs. 5,000 crore minority welfare budget has not been allocated in either of the two full budgets. Furthermore, he revealed that less than 40% of even the approved funds had been released, leaving key minority institutions like the Waqf Board, Urdu Academy, and Minority Finance Corporation underfunded and non-functional.
He also alleged that under the current administration, more than 20 incidents targeting Muslims have taken place across Telangana, reflecting rising insecurity within the community. Imtiaz Ishaq criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to the Hajj House, stating that no meaningful announcement was made for Hajj pilgrims or minority welfare. He added that the declining enrollment in minority schools and growing disillusionment among Muslims are indicators of the government’s failure to address the concerns of the minority population effectively.
