Hyderabad’s Begumpet Airport was placed on high alert on Wednesday morning following a bomb threat email, prompting swift action from security agencies. The alert was taken seriously, with bomb disposal squads rushing to the scene and beginning a thorough search of the airport premises. Though Begumpet no longer operates civil flights after the inauguration of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), it still remains crucial for military and VIP movements. The tense atmosphere was felt across the premises as teams examined every corner to ensure there was no threat to human life or infrastructure.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Begumpet Division confirmed that the alert was initiated after a suspicious email was received. Authorities wasted no time in launching a full inspection. “Begumpet Airport received a concerning email this morning. We are conducting a thorough inspection with the bomb squad and will share updates as the situation develops,” said the ACP. Despite being a non-operational commercial airport, the sensitive nature of its ongoing role in VIP and defense logistics made the threat a serious concern for local law enforcement.
As the investigation continues, police have heightened security around the vicinity, and precautionary protocols are being followed strictly. While no explosives were found during initial sweeps, security officials are not ruling anything out until the entire compound has been cleared. The incident has reignited concerns about cyber-based threats to aviation and defense-linked infrastructure. Authorities are also working to trace the source of the email as part of the cybercrime investigation. Meanwhile, residents and airport personnel have been urged to remain calm and alert.
