Blaze at Sanathnagar Industrial Unit Triggers Panic; Thick Smoke Raises Health Concerns

A massive fire erupted on Thursday morning at a plastic and paper plate manufacturing unit in Hyderabad’s Sanathnagar industrial area, sending thick black smoke into the sky and triggering panic among local residents and factory workers. The inferno, which broke out around mid-morning, quickly engulfed the facility, with large flames visible from several kilometers away. The area, known for its dense cluster of manufacturing units, witnessed significant traffic congestion and public alarm as the smoke spread across neighboring residential zones.

Five fire tenders were rushed to the scene as emergency response teams scrambled to contain the blaze. Firefighters, donning protective gear, battled the flames for hours, while onlookers gathered at a safe distance. Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, initial assessments point to the highly flammable materials—plastics and paper—stored inside the unit as key contributors to the rapid spread. Authorities have cordoned off the area, and local police are assisting with crowd control and maintaining order while an investigation is launched.

Fortunately, officials have confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far, though concerns are rising over the potential health impact of the heavy smoke on residents. Several people in nearby colonies reported respiratory discomfort and burning eyes due to the toxic fumes. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is expected to monitor air quality in the area, especially with the ongoing monsoon season which could further complicate environmental safety. Residents have been advised to remain indoors and avoid exposure to smoke until the situation is fully brought under control.
