BJP Ousts RK Singh, Suspends Two Bihar Leaders in Major Post-Poll Disciplinary Push

The Bharatiya Janata Party intensified its post-election disciplinary drive in Bihar by expelling former Union Power Minister and ex-Ara MP RK Singh for six years on charges of anti-party activities and defiance of organisational discipline. The action followed a sharply worded show-cause notice accusing him of harming the party through his statements, conduct, and public criticism of the NDA’s decisions. Within hours of the notice, the BJP announced his removal from primary membership, signalling one of its toughest crackdowns in recent years as internal dissent grows more visible.

Singh’s expulsion came against the backdrop of a widening rift triggered by his explosive allegations of a massive Rs 60,000–62,000 crore scam linked to the Adani Group’s 2,400 MW Bhagalpur (Pirpainti) power project. As a former Union power minister, his accusations carried political weight, prompting opposition leaders to mount fresh attacks on the NDA government and accuse it of favouring corporate interests. Singh further deepened the conflict by urging voters to reject candidates with criminal backgrounds—including some fielded by the NDA—and by publicly criticising the Election Commission’s handling of the Model Code of Conduct, accusing officials of allowing violations such as armed convoys during the polls.

In parallel, the BJP suspended two other prominent Bihar leaders—MLC Ashok Kumar Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal—for alleged anti-party activities, widening the sweep of the crackdown. Ashok Agarwal was penalised for campaigning for his son, who contested against the BJP on a VIP ticket, while Usha Agarwal faced similar charges of working against party interests. By disciplining all three leaders simultaneously, the BJP aims to reassert control over its Bihar unit, stem rebellion ahead of key political developments, and send a strong message that indiscipline will not be tolerated within the party.
