Bihar Assembly Election 2025: BJP Releases First List of 71 Candidates, Includes Dy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced its first list of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2025. The list features several senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who will contest from Tarapur and Lakhisarai constituencies, respectively. The announcement marks the BJP’s first major step in the run-up to the elections, with 30 more candidates expected to be revealed soon.

Under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seat-sharing arrangement, the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) will each contest 101 seats, while the remaining constituencies will go to smaller allies. Prominent leaders such as Renu Devi (Bettiah), Tarkishore Prasad (Katihar), Sanjay Saraogi (Darbhanga), and Shreyasi Singh (Jamui) have also found a place in the list. The selection reflects a mix of experienced leaders and new faces aimed at consolidating regional and caste-based support across Bihar.

The BJP’s list spans key districts, including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, and Purnia, signaling a strong focus on both urban and rural constituencies. With polling expected to take place in multiple phases between October and November, the NDA partners have intensified their campaigns, emphasizing development, governance, and welfare schemes. Party sources said the second list of candidates will be announced after internal reviews and alliance-level discussions are finalized.
