Bengaluru: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 36-year-old tech professional allegedly murdered his wife, stuffed her body into a suitcase, and fled to Pune, where he later attempted suicide. The incident took place in the Doddakannahalli area of Bengaluru and came to light when the owner of their rented house discovered the body on Thursday. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambekar, and her husband, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, had been living in Bengaluru for the past year. According to reports, the couple got into a heated argument during dinner on Wednesday night, which escalated when Gauri allegedly threw a knife at Rakesh, injuring him. In retaliation, Rakesh reportedly attacked her with the same knife, stabbing her multiple times and eventually dismembering her body before concealing it inside a suitcase.
Following the gruesome crime, Rakesh allegedly called Gauri’s parents, confessing to the murder. Shocked by his revelation, they immediately informed the Maharashtra police, who then alerted authorities in Karnataka. The Bengaluru police launched an investigation and, using digital surveillance and call detail records, tracked Rakesh down in Pune. He was found in an unconscious state after consuming poison in an attempt to take his own life. Medical officials rushed him to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Sarah Fathima confirmed that the couple had a history of domestic disputes and that initial investigations suggest marital discord as the primary cause of the murder.
Authorities are now coordinating to bring Rakesh back to Bengaluru once his condition stabilizes. Meanwhile, forensic experts continue to examine the crime scene, gathering evidence to build a case against him. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns over rising cases of domestic violence, with officials urging couples facing marital issues to seek counseling and support. The police have assured a thorough investigation, with further legal proceedings expected once Rakesh recovers. This case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked domestic disputes, highlighting the need for early intervention in troubled relationships.
