Adilabad Villagers Protest Broken Promises, Send Selfies to Rahul Gandhi

In a bold act of dissent, residents of Mukhra (K), a model village in Echoda mandal of Adilabad district, staged a unique protest on Wednesday, July 2, by displaying boards and flex banners outside their homes accusing the Congress-led Telangana government of failing to deliver on key election promises. The villagers, frustrated by 18 months of inaction, took selfies with these protest signs and sent them directly to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a symbolic plea and public indictment of the party’s unfulfilled commitments.

The protestors specifically cited the government’s failure to implement six major pre-election promises, which included a crop loan waiver of up to ₹2 lakh, monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 to women under the Mahalaxmi scheme, the distribution of one tola of gold to brides, and the creation of two lakh jobs. These promises, they reminded, were supposed to be fulfilled within the first 100 days of the Congress coming to power. However, as they pointed out, none of the assurances have materialized even after more than a year and a half in office, deepening rural discontent and shaking public trust in governance.

The residents also criticized the Congress government for discontinuing several welfare schemes introduced by the previous BRS administration, such as KCR Kits for pregnant women, Nutrition Kits, Rythu Bima, and Rythu Bandhu for farmers. Their protest has attracted attention on social media and among local political observers, as it reflects a growing wave of rural dissatisfaction. The message to Rahul Gandhi underscores a wider challenge for the Congress in maintaining support among grassroots voters, especially ahead of upcoming local body elections in the state.
