A massive tamarind tree came crashing down on moving vehicles near Akkannapet village in Ramayampet mandal, causing a major scare on the busy Medak–Siddipet road on Tuesday. An auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle were struck by the falling tree while in motion, but both drivers fortunately survived the ordeal. The auto driver suffered bleeding head injuries, while the motorcyclist sustained minor bruises. Eyewitnesses described the incident as shocking, noting that the tree fell without warning, sending nearby commuters into panic.
The auto-rickshaw was completely crushed in the incident, while the motorcycle was badly damaged. Traffic on both sides of the road came to a standstill following the accident. Local authorities responded promptly, deploying police personnel and mobilizing JCBs to clear the massive debris. It took several hours to remove the tree and restore normal traffic flow. The sudden roadblock led to a long jam during peak hours, severely affecting commuters heading toward Medak and Siddipet towns.
Residents in the area expressed concern over the lack of regular maintenance of roadside trees, especially those that are decades old and pose a potential risk. They urged the local administration to inspect and prune such trees to prevent future mishaps. Authorities have assured that a safety audit of large roadside trees in the region will be conducted soon. Meanwhile, the injured auto driver and motorcyclist were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
