ED Names 29 Celebrities in Telangana Online Betting Scam Probe

In a major crackdown on digital gambling networks, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a money laundering probe against 29 celebrities, including renowned actors Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, and Prakash Raj, for allegedly promoting illegal online betting platforms. The investigation, triggered by five FIRs registered with Telangana police, involves popular apps such as Junglee Rummy, JeetWin, and Lotus365. The celebrities, which include actors, social media influencers, and YouTubers, are accused of endorsing these platforms in exchange for large promotional fees. According to ED officials, these platforms have been generating crores in illegal profits while operating outside legal betting regulations.

Among those under scrutiny are notable figures like Manchu Lakshmi, Nidhi Agarwal, Pranitha Subhash, Ananya Nagalla, and television presenter Srimukhi. The ED suspects that several of these celebrities may have unknowingly lent credibility to unlawful services under the guise of legitimate gaming promotions. Some have already begun issuing clarifications, claiming ignorance of the platforms’ true nature. However, the ED remains firm in its approach and has plans to summon and record statements from all those named in the case. The agency is also probing financial transactions to trace the proceeds of crime and map the flow of money involved in the endorsements.

This latest development has sent shockwaves through the entertainment and influencer community in Telangana and beyond, raising serious concerns over the ethical responsibility of public figures when endorsing online brands. The ED’s investigation aims not only to expose the illicit betting racket but also to set a precedent for accountability in digital promotions. Legal experts suggest that if proven guilty under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), those involved could face heavy fines and even imprisonment. With the betting ecosystem in India coming under increasing regulatory scrutiny, this case is likely to redefine influencer-brand relationships and reshape how celebrity promotions are vetted in the future.
