Siddaramaiah Dismisses Speculation, Confirms Full 5-Year CM Term in Karnataka

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah firmly dismissed all rumors about an early exit from his post, stating clearly on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, that he will serve a full five-year term. “Yes, I will be. Why do you have the doubt?” he responded when asked by reporters if he would remain the CM for the entire term. The veteran Congress leader’s assertive statement comes amid ongoing whispers within political circles about a possible leadership change.

Speculation about a mid-term shift in leadership has been growing for months, fueled by reports of a power-sharing agreement between Siddaramaiah and his deputy, D.K. Shivakumar. Some Congress insiders claimed the deal involved rotating the chief ministerial post after two-and-a-half years. However, the CM’s latest remarks appear to dismiss those reports as unfounded and aimed at destabilizing the current leadership.

Adding clarity to the situation, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar himself weighed in on Tuesday, stating that there was no discussion within the party regarding a leadership transition. He emphasized that the Congress’s focus should be on governance and strengthening Siddaramaiah’s hands. With this unified front, the Karnataka Congress seems determined to quash internal rifts and maintain political stability ahead of future electoral challenges.
