Indian Woman Vanishes in New Jersey Days After Arriving for Arranged Marriage, Police Suspect Alternate Motive

A 24-year-old Indian woman named Simran has mysteriously disappeared in New Jersey just nine days after landing in the United States for an arranged marriage. According to police in Lindenwold, New Jersey, Simran was last seen on Wednesday checking her phone and looking around, as if waiting for someone, based on CCTV footage from a nearby location. She showed no visible signs of distress at the time. Authorities are now investigating whether the arranged marriage was her true motive for visiting the U.S., with some officials suggesting she may have used it as a pretext to travel. Simran reportedly did not speak English and had no relatives in the country, making her sudden disappearance all the more troubling.

Police say Simran arrived from India on June 20 and was supposed to meet the prospective groom’s family in New Jersey. She was last seen wearing grey sweatpants, a white t-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond earrings. She is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 68 kilograms, and having a small scar on her forehead. Despite multiple attempts, authorities have been unable to contact any of her relatives back in India. Her case has raised concerns over safety and documentation of individuals traveling for matrimonial purposes without local support or language proficiency in foreign countries.

This incident comes months after another Indian woman, 20-year-old pre-med student Sudiksha Konanki, went missing while vacationing in the Dominican Republic in March. That case also remains unsolved, intensifying attention on the vulnerabilities faced by young Indian women traveling abroad alone or in unfamiliar circumstances. In Simran’s case, while foul play has not been confirmed, police are expanding the investigation and appealing to the public for any leads that may help locate her. The story has gained traction both in the Indian and American media, sparking debates about travel safeguards and marriage-related immigration loopholes.
