A wave of unrest swept through Ayyappa Society in Madhapur on Monday as residents living near Sunnam Cheruvu staged a massive protest against the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Authority (HYDRAA) and the State government. Protesters alleged that HYDRAA had ignored a court-issued stay order and carried out unauthorized land surveys in the locality. The locals, fearing demolition of their homes, claimed that the actual size of Sunnam Cheruvu is 15 acres, but authorities were falsely marking it as 32 acres to justify evictions.
The situation escalated when furious residents blocked the main road, bringing traffic in the busy IT corridor to a standstill. The agitation grew intense as demonstrators, angered by the discrepancies in land records and continued survey activities, brandished petrol bottles and threatened self-harm. Their primary demand was for immediate withdrawal of survey operations and a halt to any plans of demolition until the legal proceedings are concluded.
The protest soon drew the attention of law enforcement agencies, who rushed to the scene to de-escalate tensions and restore order. Police intervention helped control the situation, preventing further escalation and ensuring public safety. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread concern among local communities over the transparency of government land operations and the disregard for judicial orders.
