Air India Offers Additional ₹25 Lakh Interim Compensation to Crash Victims’ Families and Lone Survivor

In a significant move following the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, Air India, under the Tata Group, announced an additional interim compensation of ₹25 lakh each for the families of the deceased as well as for the sole survivor of the accident. This interim relief comes on top of the ₹1 crore compensation already declared by Tata Sons earlier, aiming to address the immediate financial needs of those affected. Speaking from Ahmedabad, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson emphasized the airline’s commitment to providing urgent assistance and emotional support, saying, “Our management team is on the ground, and we will stay as long as needed.”

Wilson added that Air India teams are working in close coordination with local authorities to facilitate the identification and reunification process of the victims with their families. Acknowledging the sensitive nature of the incident, he appealed for privacy for the grieving families. In parallel, the airline has also begun comprehensive safety inspections of its Boeing 787 fleet as per the directives issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The aircraft’s flight data recorder has also been recovered and will be part of the ongoing investigation led by aviation authorities.

In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), the airline reiterated its condolences and support, stating, “Air India stands in solidarity with the families of those who tragically lost their lives.” The statement further stressed that all ground teams are making every possible effort to ensure care, support, and logistical assistance in this difficult time. The tragic crash has once again placed the spotlight on aviation safety in India, with a high-level air safety review meeting scheduled today, chaired by Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.
