Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite approvals for key infrastructure projects in the state, notably the ₹24,269 crore Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2, the 340-km Regional Ring Road (RRR), and vital semiconductor and defence manufacturing initiatives. Addressing the NITI Aayog meeting in Delhi on May 24, Reddy emphasized that Hyderabad has seen no metro expansion in the last decade despite rapid urban growth. He highlighted that the proposed Phase 2 includes five corridors spanning 76.4 km, with funding split between the Centre, state, and debt. The proposal, pending since November 2023, awaits final cabinet clearance, and Reddy compared it to approved metro expansions in Bengaluru and Chennai.
Reddy also sought simultaneous approvals for the Northern and Southern sections of the Regional Ring Road. While the Northern stretch is progressing with 90% land acquisition approvals, the Southern part remains stalled. He warned that delays could lead to cost escalation and diminish the RRR’s overall utility. In addition, he proposed a 370-km Regional Ring Railway to complement the RRR, enhancing freight logistics and regional connectivity. The CM advocated for a greenfield highway and a dedicated railway line from the proposed Dry Port near Hyderabad to Bandar Port to support Telangana’s pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors, which already contribute 35% to India’s pharma production.
Revanth Reddy also pushed for Telangana’s inclusion in the India Semiconductor Mission, citing Hyderabad’s existing base of global tech giants like AMD, NVIDIA, and Foxconn. He highlighted the state’s infrastructure, skilled workforce, and seismic safety as ideal for hosting a semiconductor fab. On defence, he called for Telangana’s designation as a formal Defence Corridor, noting the state’s role as India’s largest aerospace and defence manufacturing hub. He requested fast-tracked joint venture approvals, production-linked incentives for MSMEs, and proposed that Hyderabad host the next DefExpo, to elevate the state’s role in India’s defence ecosystem.
