Eight people, including two women, were killed and at least seven others injured in a powerful explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh on April 13, 2025. The blast struck around 12:45 PM at Kotavuratla village, and the injured were promptly shifted to various hospitals for treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported that charred body parts were scattered around the site, complicating the process of identification. The licensed manufacturing unit, operating under an asbestos roof with 15 people present at the time, was severely damaged. Postmortem examinations are underway at local hospitals, with five of the deceased being examined at a facility in Narsipatnam and three at the Anakapalle district hospital. Out of the six injured persons at King George Hospital, four have recovered, while two remain in critical condition; two additional patients are recovering at another Narsipatnam hospital.

In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased, along with Rs 50,000 for the injured. Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also conveyed their condolences and ensured that proper medical care and an inquiry into the incident would be promptly arranged. Meanwhile, YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the government to extend all possible assistance to the victims, and the state government declared an ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh to each bereaved family.
