Nagpur Violence: Police Crack Down on Circulation of Edited Protest Videos

Nagpur witnessed violent clashes following the circulation of an edited video related to a protest against Aurangzeb. According to Cyber DCP Lohit Matani, accused Faheem Khan played a key role in manipulating and spreading the video, which led to unrest in the city. The police have taken strict action, registering four FIRs and seeking the blocking of over 230 social media profiles involved in inciting violence. Authorities are coordinating with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to identify and apprehend those responsible for spreading misinformation.

Despite the unrest, officials have worked swiftly to restore order. Nagpur Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar confirmed that normalcy has returned, although some areas remain under curfew. He also announced that the government is assessing the damage to civilian property, which includes the destruction of 50-60 two-wheelers, 10-15 four-wheelers, cranes, and several houses. Compensation will be provided to those affected based on the final assessment. A dedicated team is currently conducting a ground-level evaluation to determine the extent of financial relief required for victims.

Meanwhile, a shocking case of molestation of a female police officer during the violence has sparked outrage. Prominent Muslim cleric Chaudhary Ifraheem Husain condemned the incident, calling for severe punishment for the culprits. An FIR has been registered, revealing that a mob attempted to disrobe the officer while chanting derogatory slogans. Additional reports suggest that other women were also harassed, and a vehicle was vandalized during the clashes. So far, Nagpur Police have arrested 50 individuals, including seven minors, as they continue to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
