A group of 13 senior Supreme Court advocates has written to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, urging him to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to register an FIR against Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court for alleged anti-Muslim remarks. The letter cites Justice Yadav’s controversial December 8 speech during a VHP event, which has been criticized as hate speech and a breach of judicial conduct.

In their letter, the advocates, including Indira Jaising, Aspi Chinoy, and Anand Grover, highlighted Justice Yadav’s divisive rhetoric, where he referred to “hamari Gita” (our Gita) and “aapki Koran” (your Koran) and used derogatory terms to describe Muslims. The letter also noted his comments on the Uniform Civil Code, claiming they were used as a facade to spread hate. They emphasized the speech undermined judicial impartiality and was inconsistent with constitutional values.

The letter has been forwarded to members of the Supreme Court Collegium for further action. Additionally, 55 Opposition MPs have filed a notice in the Rajya Sabha for Justice Yadav’s impeachment, citing bias and prejudice against minorities. Senior advocate Prashanth Bhushan’s Campaign for Judicial Accountability has also called for an in-house inquiry and suspension of Justice Yadav. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, raising questions about judicial integrity and accountability.
