Protests Erupt in Patna Over BPSC Exam Cancellation, Traffic Brought to a Standstill

Supporters of Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, staged widespread protests in Patna on Sunday (January 12), demanding the cancellation and re-examination of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam. Pappu Yadav’s call for a statewide ‘Bihar Bandh’ brought chaos to the capital city, disrupting daily life. Protesters burned tyres, blocked major roads, and set effigies of BPSC officials on fire in frustration over alleged irregularities in the exam process.

The agitation created massive traffic jams, particularly in Kankarbagh and Ashok Rajpath, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Demonstrators enforced the bandh by halting vehicles and demanding public support for their cause. The protests caused significant inconvenience, as markets, public transportation, and daily activities were disrupted throughout the city.

Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj party founder Prashant Kishor continues his ‘fast unto death,’ further intensifying the political tension surrounding the issue. Kishor has also called for the re-examination of the BPSC exam, citing concerns over transparency and fairness. The unrest highlights growing dissatisfaction among Bihar’s youth regarding employment opportunities and governance.
