“Keep Gods Out of Politics”: Supreme Court on Tirupati Laddoo Row

The Supreme Court of India has weighed in on the contentious issue surrounding the Tirupati temple laddoos, emphasizing that religion and politics should not mix. This statement comes amid allegations that animal fat was found in the ghee used to make the laddoos, which are devotional offerings given to the deity and devotees at Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati temple.

The court expressed dissatisfaction with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s public statements on the matter, particularly since his administration had already initiated an investigation. The court questioned the necessity of Naidu’s comments, given the ongoing inquiry and the lack of definitive proof regarding the contamination of the ghee.

The Supreme Court’s stern stance was also reflected in its warning to the Chief Minister against making further unnecessary comments, stating, “There should be restraint…” The court’s concerns were echoed in its inquiry about the proof linking the allegedly contaminated ghee to the laddoo production process.
