IndiGo Hikes Fuel Surcharge on Domestic and International Flights

New Delhi: IndiGo has announced an increase in fuel surcharges on both domestic and international flights, citing a sharp rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices that has significantly increased the airline’s operating costs. The revised surcharge will come into effect for all new flight bookings made from October 6, 2026. The airline said the decision was necessary as fuel prices continue to remain high due to ongoing volatility in global crude oil markets and geopolitical uncertainties affecting the aviation industry.

According to the airline, ATF prices have recorded a steady increase over the past few months, with the latest month-on-month rise exceeding 14 percent. IndiGo stated that aviation fuel accounts for one of the largest components of an airline’s operating expenses, and the continued surge in fuel prices has placed considerable pressure on overall cost structures. The airline noted that the increase is expected to impact network planning and operational economics across the aviation sector.

IndiGo said the revised fuel surcharge is aimed at partially offsetting the growing burden of higher fuel costs while maintaining flight operations across its domestic and international network. The airline added that the revised charges will apply only to fresh bookings made from October 6 onward, while passengers who booked their tickets before the effective date will not be affected by the latest surcharge revision.
