Constable Dismissed After Suryapet Double Murder; Fast-Track Trial Sought

Police constable Mohammad Sharif has been dismissed from service following his alleged involvement in the brutal murder of a married couple in Telangana’s Suryapet district. The dismissal came after departmental proceedings, while police also invoked provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the case. Authorities have appointed a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to lead the investigation and are seeking to transfer the matter to a fast-track court to ensure a speedy trial.

According to investigators, the victims, Halavath Nagulu and his wife Halavath Buba of Bikya Thanda in Mothey mandal, had reportedly borrowed ₹3 lakh from Sharif. Police allege that after the couple failed to repay the loan and allegedly threatened to initiate legal action under the SC/ST Act, Sharif planned and executed the murders. He allegedly lured Nagulu to an agricultural field under the pretext of inspecting sheep for a loan, killed him with a stone, and buried the body. Later, he reportedly brought Buba to the same location on the pretext of taking photographs, murdered her, buried her body, and fled with her jewellery.

The investigation led to the arrest of Sharif and another accused, Jillepalli Sunder. Police said the crime was solved within 24 hours using CCTV footage and technical evidence. The case has drawn widespread attention due to the alleged involvement of a serving police constable and the shocking nature of the crime. Authorities say they are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation and expediting the judicial process.
