Iran Mocks Trump’s Hormuz Claim With California Map Post

Iran has responded to a social media post by former US President Donald Trump with a satirical online message after he shared an image describing the Strait of Hormuz as the “new US territory.” In response, the Iranian Consulate in Hyderabad posted a map of the United States on X with California highlighted and captioned it as the “New territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” The post appeared to mock Trump’s claim and quickly gained attention across social media platforms amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Earlier, Trump had shared an image on his Truth Social account showing the Strait of Hormuz encircled beneath the words “NEW US Territory.” The post followed his recent remarks suggesting that the strategic waterway would effectively become US territory after what he described as Iran’s “surrender.” Although the statement was symbolic rather than an official policy declaration, it triggered strong reactions from Iranian officials and government-linked social media accounts.

Iranian diplomatic missions and affiliated accounts, including the Iranian Embassy in Tunisia, joined the online exchange by reposting and modifying Trump’s image with their own messages. The back-and-forth reflects the growing use of social media by both sides to project political narratives and respond to each other’s statements. The online spat comes at a time of heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
