Bihar Police Detain Tejashwi Yadav During NEET Protest March

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav was detained by police on Wednesday while leading a large protest march in Patna against the recent police action on students demonstrating over the NEET paper leak issue. The march, which drew thousands of supporters, was heading towards Lok Bhavan when police used water cannons to stop the protesters. Despite the crackdown, Tejashwi continued leading the demonstration before being taken into custody along with several senior party leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav. Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma later confirmed the detention.

Following the detention, police escorted Tejashwi Yadav and other RJD leaders in a police vehicle to an undisclosed location. The move triggered anger among party workers, many of whom surrounded the vehicle and attempted to stop it from leaving. The protest highlighted growing political tensions in Bihar over the handling of demonstrations related to the alleged NEET paper leak and the police response to student protests across the state. Authorities, however, did not disclose where the detained leaders were being held.

The RJD organised the march to demand strict action against police personnel accused of using excessive force during the student protests. The party has particularly raised concerns over an incident in Siwan, where a police constable was allegedly seen using an AK-47 rifle while dealing with protesters. The opposition has accused the state government of suppressing democratic protests instead of addressing the concerns of students, while the administration continues to defend its law-and-order measures as investigations into the incidents remain underway.
