A consumer court in Hyderabad has directed an international courier company to pay ₹50,000 as compensation to a city resident after a parcel intended for the United Kingdom was mistakenly delivered to a stranger in Ireland. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission held both the courier company, Atlantic International Courier, and its authorised booking agent, Indra Enterprises, responsible for the delivery error, describing it as a clear case of deficiency in service.
The complaint was filed by Tarnaka resident Dr. Ponna Srinivas, who had paid ₹9,450 in 2025 to send a parcel to his daughter living in the UK. However, instead of reaching the intended address, the shipment was delivered to an unrelated individual named Rahul in Ireland. Srinivas approached the consumer commission, stating that the courier company’s negligence caused him financial losses as well as significant mental distress. After examining the case, the commission ruled that both the booking agent and the courier company were jointly accountable because the service had been offered as a single international delivery.
As part of its order, the commission directed Indra Enterprises to reimburse ₹23,691 towards airfare expenses and refund ₹5,400 in shipping charges. Atlantic International Courier was separately ordered to pay ₹50,000 as compensation for the mental agony suffered by the complainant. The commission also stressed that courier companies handling international consignments have a responsibility to ensure accurate and secure delivery, adding that sending a parcel to the wrong country constitutes a serious lapse in service and warrants appropriate compensation.
