The Telangana Civil Supplies Department is set to begin distributing new smart ration cards to eligible beneficiaries across the state in the coming days. The ATM-sized cards have already been dispatched to district authorities and are now being sent to mandals before reaching fair price shops (ration shops). Distribution will be carried out shop-wise based on the number of beneficiaries, making it easier for cardholders to collect their new cards from their designated ration outlets.
The new smart ration cards will be issued in the name of the female head of the family. Each card will feature the Telangana government logo, a photograph of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. In addition, the card will include the beneficiary’s details, Food Security Card number, and a QR code to enable quick verification and improve transparency in the public distribution system.
According to official data, Telangana had over 1.06 crore ration cards covering approximately 3.42 crore beneficiaries as of June 2025. The introduction of smart ration cards is aimed at modernising the ration distribution system, enhancing security, reducing duplication, and ensuring that eligible families receive food grains and other government benefits through a more efficient and technology-enabled process.
