As Telangana prepares to launch the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls from June 25, election officials have acknowledged that there is currently no system in place to automatically identify individuals who may be registered as voters in more than one State. However, officials clarified that possessing voting rights in multiple States is a punishable offence under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and action can be taken against those found violating the law.

Speaking during a presentation at the Telangana Press Academy, State-level Training Nodal Officer B. Chennaiah revealed that a review of voter data across the State had uncovered discrepancies in the records of nearly 89.88 lakh voters. He assured the public that these issues primarily relate to inaccuracies in voter information and that steps are being taken to rectify them through a transparent verification process. Affected voters will receive notices and will be required to submit relevant documents to update or correct their records.

Election authorities also emphasized that the revision exercise aims to ensure that all eligible citizens, including homeless and destitute individuals, are able to exercise their democratic rights. Officials said such persons can approach their local Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to obtain Enumeration Forms and register as voters. The door-to-door verification drive and distribution of forms will continue from June 25 to July 24, followed by the publication of draft electoral rolls on July 31. After objections and corrections are addressed, the final electoral rolls will be released on October 1.
